Thoughts of Jeff Bliss

I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather today and go out for a run. I just returned from it and haven’t even actually taken time to stretch or shower yet. I wanted to type out some things that happened to me while I was out there today.

First and foremost, it was quite the good run. I’ve been feeling really sore and unmotivated lately and just haven’t been able to get into the running rhythm like I used to. However, today felt different. I actually felt a little bit of a runner’s high for the first time in awhile. I didn’t run as far as I would have liked due to cramping at the end but I was still pleased. I started off by walking to the entrance of our apartment complex. I began jogging down 64 all the way through the four stoplights in downtown Sycamore. As I was running by Villa Verone, I saw three kids having foot races on the same sidewalk I was running on. It definitely brought a smile to my face. Around that same time was when I experienced the runner’s high and boy did it feel great. It has been a long time since I’ve felt it and I’m relieved to know that I can still push myself to that threshold.

Anyway, I turned at the fourth stop light and looped around onto Dekalb avenue. As I approached the church, I finally stopped running because my side was just aching so hard. I walked all the way to about the Clark gas station and then decided to go on a dead sprint until my body couldn’t handle it anymore. I always feel lazy unless I end runs with a good hard sprint. It always makes me realize just how much energy our bodies have left even if we feel like we have expended it all during exercise. Seriously, try it sometime. Even if you feel so spent, I guarantee you can still push a 10-20 second sprint out of yourself. It is an amazing feeling when you finish it and realize you STILL have energy to spare after that.

Anyway, to bring us to the title of this post, I was walking by the liquor store on 64 and saw a guy in a hoodie and jeans walk out of the store with a 12 pack of Busch. He appeared to be stumbling slightly, so I imagined he already had some liquor in him. As we walked by the golf course and driving range, he abruptly put his beer down and went behind an electricity pole and started to piss right there in front of everyone. I was a good hundred or so feet behind him so it wasn’t like I was within arms reach of his manhood or anything. However, it was about 4 o clock in the afternoon and he was just pissing their right in front of everyone. It amused me to say the least. Luckily he zipped up and continued walking down 64 before I got a chance to get up close to him during that lovely moment.

Apparently this gentleman lives in the same apartment complex as me. I thought I might have known him at first because he looked awfully similar to someone who lives in my building. However, I saw that guy drive by me as I was walking back to my apartment.

It was a good run today and I’m glad I was able to enjoy this weather. Not only was it one of the better runs I’ve had, but it was also nice to see people out while I was running too. Playful children and urinating middle age men sure made for an interesting afternoon. Let’s just hope my run tomorrow is as wonderful of an experience as today’s was.
